software to backup customer's emails

I am moving some customers from their own cp to my cp since they don’t use it. I was told I need to back up their emails before I shut down their cp - is there a package (hopefully open source), to easily download their emails before migrating them?

You can use any email client, like MS outlook or thunderbird (Thundebird is free)
