there are masses of spambots(ie hacked home PCs with local SMTP server) sending spam out as mail3/mail1/mail4 and many other “servers”, we got the headers for 2 such messages and they were not from the server at all, and most of the people only got them because they have catchall on. My suggestion, if you have catchall on, please turn it off!
Ok Thanks…
We are providing Psoft’s stock install/configuration of spamassassin at the moment, however i have already enabled a few additional checks for last few days. But it certainely the increased explotation of infected PCs that is creating this new wave of spam.
What I don’t understand if all this is coming from infected PC’s, how come most of my domains on Mail3 and some of your other clients are getting the same spam E-mails with the same subjects.
I would think if its from a infected PC a E-mail address would be affected and it would make sense for all the spam being target at one address.
Some of my domains that are getting the same spam E-mails are never used and are not being sent out to get to a infected PC. Don’t make sense.
I am on mail 3 and get no spam at all on my domain. However, a client of mine gets hammered. The difference? He has had his account for many years, while mine is only a couple years old at best.
So I don’t think it is the server that is the problem. I have NEVER had a catch all for account, and I only use it for legitimate business dealings, no junk. I think it makes a big difference.
Yea, I don’t get it. I totally understand the PC attacks, Tanmaya is talking about, but this problem is almost all my domains as mentioned before.
Maybe with my credits on all my websites somehow the spiders got a hold of one address and found all the other websites, stealing the addresses on each site.
Spammers put in a lot of money in this business ( Ofcourse they make a huge sum too). Apart from these bots, they also get domain names from domain based services like whois.sc, from google, from everywhere they can get. Also these infected PCs keep them updated with new domains and other information of their interest. Spiders are just another way.
Ok Thanks Tanmaya, I know you are doing your best
. They need to do something with this spam and make the laws tougher, this is ridicious.
I just got hit with about 30 more the last hour and now they are coming in with different dates some dated back to January. They all went into my spam folder, but still they need to serious get tougher on these guys. They say they punish people, but I know because there is so many spammers out there its tough.

sent you a PM with a URL that even i’m not interested to read even a page, but just to give you a hint of the scale of this business.
Please ignore the language there.
I got it thanks Tanmaya. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr X( X( X( I am more mad now X( X( :laser: :laser:
Not sure if a setting or someting got messed up on mail3, but the spam is getting bad again, it has been alot better the last few weeks till up till today.
THe same old spam emails software etc. so they are not new ones so thought maybe a setting got screwed up somewhere.
I enabled a few extra options for harder spam scanning based on some external data and the server’s load skyrocketted. I kept it as long as i can, but cant continue with it any longer. Instead i will try to create a local mirror first. Will work on this as soon as i find time.
Ok Tanmaya thanks for all your help. I knew something happen it has been very quiet till yesterday.
Have a Great Day… ![]()
getting major spam and BLANK emails everywhere, I read an article about the blank emails a few days back and have been looking for it.
It is speculated to be testing for some new zombie/trojan infection from what I read, all for sending spam, but they were testing the waters sending blank mail.

Many of my clients started complaining as well…they are getting spam on non-public emails. how can someone manage to get hold on such email addresses?
Emails range from all kinda things.. Viagra to all kinda software..almost everything i dont need.. X(
We temporarily disabled some RBL checks due to excessive load they were generating on the mail servers.
We plan to re-enable them next week when we upgrade all mail servers to dual, dual core processors.
However disabling of RBL checks would only result in a small increase in spam. I suggest fine-tuning your filter
well my concern is not with filtering. but some mails come to non-public emails…thats a problem. or many times i get mails from [email protected]****here.biz
Any idea how this thing is possible?
