basically it says that 204.10.105.67is blocked by spamcop
Basically the problem is people leaving non billed accounts open, or not checking and basica details of signups to verify them, then spammers start sending SPAM and PAYPAL fraud out via the mailservers, it is really getting to be a full time task just preventing this, and sometimes they slip through.
Resellers, PLEASE police your signups, use the Hsphere templates Fraud check in the 3rd Party tools menu, please help us keep the servers clean! There is only so much we can do now without severly limiting everyone to prevnet spam!

Oh my..I hope this wasn’t a result of the one I found and deleted the account..they were sending out PayPal phishing emails via script.
Stephen…I haven’t tried those tools before..do they simply try and determine validity of the purchase/purchaser itself?
Any ideas as to ways we could try to police our clients from doing any of this if they get past the validity checks?
This was caused by that client, but I was in no way pointing a finger at you here!
This happens to many, and it is complex to stop. I don’t have all the answers for finding fraud signups/spammer signups.
However, Mxxmind does some basic location to billing location IDing, which is a big sign of fraud. It also has a datbase of known spammer email addresses that will rate highly in the scoring system.
Thanks Stephen..I know you weren’t directing the problem specifically at me! It just burns my butt that people doing this hurt other people. I’m sure it drives you guys crazy trying to fix the blacklists etc.
Now if somebody could just develop some type of software…maybe that sends an electric shock to the keyboard (preferably 220 volts) of anyone that does it!
I dont know if this is practical or fair but is there any type of accountability for resellers making sure their clients follow the rules. I am not trying to point fingers or blame anyone. For instance I would think that it would be appropriate for resellers to double check the basics and possibly even call and talk to the client. Maybe I am not realistic because I know all of my customers personally but as a reseller I am affected as well when there are spammers.

I am a JodoHost customer and I suggest that JH use different mail servers for their customers than the ones being provided to reseller plans. I think this would provide the direct JH customers better service. With all due respect to the resellers, let the them deal with their own problems, don’t impact us JH customers by the mistakes of a reseller.
As we all know, the SMTP mail server problems with web hosts like JH is a major problem. I believe many people deal with this problem every day here at JH as well as other vendors. The customers of the big vendors like AOL, MSN and Yahoo and the ISPs don’t seem to have these problems. Its a problem plaguing the web host industry. In the past I have been forced to use my local DSL ISP’s SMTP server and more recently I have started using one provided by Yahoo to get around these problems here at JH.
I know JH works hard to keep their SMTP mail servers clean. I’m sure it is a huge task for them and I am not saying that they aren’t doing almost everything they can do. I think one more step would be to provide separate servers for their direct customers so that they are in complete control of their direct customer’s experiences.
That sounds like a good idea… and maybe even approved resellers being on those mailservers? I have a reseller account, but i only use it to host websites of my personal clients that i do development for… i’d like to get in on that as well if i could…

Also with all due respect.. but resellers here are also direct Jodo customers. One of the differences between resellers and single hosting customers is that resellers are probably impacted to a much greater degree if the mail servers get blacklisted. I’m all for finding a resolution to the problem..however I don’t believe it is as simple as you stated. It isn’t simply a “reseller mistake” I remain hopefull that there is a way around this problem..but I don’t have any answers to it..hopefully the folks at Jodo might be able to find something.

I did not mean to say that my suggestion would solve the problem. It would isolate JodoHost’s direct customers from their reseller customers and those down the line. In my first post I quoted something Stephen said about a problem he is having with resellers not policing their users as close as JH does. Isolating the reseller customers from JH’s direct customers would help JH’s direct customers. We would benefit from JH’s closer watch on it’s users and not be affected by resellers that don’t do as good of a job.
It just seems to me that a web host would want to separate their different sides of the business for this as well as other reasons. Maybe I’m wrong?
The main issue would be some technical limits in place that don’t exactly work like that

Even by seperating resellers from “direct” customers you don’t resolve the issue, not by a long shot.
As InTheMarket stated, resellers are infact direct customers fo JodoHost. Now I agree that resellers should do their homework and be responsible for their signups ..but you can’t generalize.
I understand Homer’s point of view …why suffer from the mistakes of others, but you failed to realize that resellers that are careful with signups are hurt by a sloppy reseller as much as JH shared hosting customers. Fairness? of course not.
Now just to clarify, I’m not saying that all spammers are due to sloppy resellers …they get harder to stop by the day, but careless resellers don’t help.
Spammers are and always will be a pain to any type of hosting.

Correct. But in the specific case that Stephen mentioned it would have isolated all of JH’s direct customers from the problem caused by a reseller. So at a minimum it would help for those specific cases, but I agree it is nowhere near perfect.
JH is not going to consider a separate configuration for their “direct” customers in relation to their reseller group, so this discussion really has no value at this point.
