I’m having a had time getting some SSL certs renewed through my normal SSL provider, InstantSSL (Comodo). For some reason, they changed their validation process yet again, and want to call my customer directly to leave an authorization code.
So I’m curious, what are others using for SSL certs? What does JH normally use?
There are many SSL providers available in the market. We do not recommend any specific SSL provider, we accept all. You can opt anyone which suits you.
I realize that JH accepts any. I was more looking for recommendations. Comodo has taken to contacting customers directly and trying to steal them away from resellers.. Terrible business practice, so I have to look for a new SSL provider..
I don’t really have a recommendation, I have seen the comodo process first had.
About 2 months ago I tried buying SSL certs in a pinch for a special purpose (basically I was making an SSL VPN and needed a trusted cert for it to work), I didn’t want to wait around or pay $99 for a cert, but all of them made large large delays. It was a real pain. I purchased from two providers and both had 6+ hours of delays, one had over 48 hours before getting back to me.
I am not going to name them because we did get problems sorted and it was on a friday night, one was a reseller for basically every cert provider, and one was a comodo reseller (and I got confirmation emails from COMODO on ‘behalf of’ the other party, and branded as comodo, I thought that was really striking in a way you do as well from what I can tell.
Thanks the the explanation. I’ve been reselling SSL certs for over 10 years, first from Thawte and Verisign (overpriced), and then from Comodo. Comodo was hands down the best, well priced certs and fast deployment. Until they started doing extended validation, and now contacting our customers directly. For a reseller, that can be a kiss of death. Same way JH doesn’t contact their resellers’ customers directly, neither should an SSL cert provider..
I think I’m going to give RapidSSL a try and see how it goes with them..
