Hello, I have linux based client that wants SSL enabled for an order form. It has been a long time since I have had to mess with SSL and I have a couple of general questions…
Let’s first assume we want SSL enabled for the main site

Let’s say the domain is mydomain.com. Do you get the SSL for mydomain.com or www.mydomain.com? I see there is a choice when going to create the temporary certificate and I am not sure which should be used.

If you get it for mydomain.com does that mean that www.mydomain.com cannot use https?

If you get it for mydomain.com does that mean that you must access it via https://mydomain.com? What happens if you go to http://mydomain.com? Will it work or respond with an error.

In this case I would have to assign a static IP, right?
Now let’s look at this as if I wanted only secure.mydomain.com to have SSL enabled.

Do I get the SSL created for that exact domain… secure.mydomain.com?

In this case this is the only domain that can use https?
