Hi, is there any timeframe for the mail server move?
We have several shops that have mail confirmation sent and that page takes ages to load, which cause clients to refresh resulting in doubled/tripled/etced orders. Sometime it takes about 2 minutes to complete, minimum being 70 seconds. Most of the orders come at least tripled, maximum being 8 time. It’s very hard to operate under these circumstances, especially one of the site which is the middle of a campaign and gets lots of orders/day.
I have asked support to move at least one domain to mail5 which is the only mail server moved to Waco so far, but they say it’s impossible to do that (which I hardly believe as it would be just a DNS record to modify).
I do have some spare domains that can be puted directly on mail5 as they are unused so we could use them to send mails. (Sites are both under *nix servers and windows and use smtp sendmail/cdosys). Any support is highly appreciated.
Thanks.
zaboss,
We are working on this(moving mail), just got a load of servers in. We are having some issues with IPs at the moment (example: getting more IP space, IPv4 is exhausted and the process now is extreme to get more, and ISPs not willing to turn them over now)
it is 100% correct that mail services can’t be moved. It is way more than a DNS record, it is dozens, to hundreds of maildirs, config files, mail content itself, and not to mention Hsphere DB entries.
We in fact moved a couple in the past and it totally screws up hsphere’s logic process.
We’ll be updating more on this soon, we’ve just been caught in a bit of a bad place with IP space right now, we have enough to proceed with mail servers without issue, but we need to move other servers as well.
I’ve seen some people using IPs without SSL or other cause as well, we’ll have to start a crackdown on these going forward, and even some of those, just to make space.
OK, I understand that. But would it be possible to add a new domain on a server “connected” to mail5?
web Servers and domains are isolated, like web servers and SQL servers, I wish they could be moved individually but they can’t
you can have a domain still on mail1, but move web services (only moveable service in control panel) to the latest, or any in between, but not mail/sql services like this.
