Yes, this isn’t the first time it’s happened. It seems that the RAID card failed leaving both hard disks inoperable. We will be talking to Adaptec regarding this

We aren’t the only host that has experienced such a failure. I’ve known at least one other host that experience complete loss of their RAID array when their Adaptec controller failed

There have been plenty of occasions where RAID has saved the day. Hard drives have failed on our servers before and no downtime occured. MSSQL2’s hard disk failed recently, no one knew about it, not even us.

Eta?

3 hours.

Hmm..
How likely is it for 2 hard disks in a RAID configuration to fail at the same time? It seems each time there is a hardware problem with storage, the problem is unrecoverable despite the use of RAID hardware 0.o

+1 …

Just a bad and strange problem for Jodo (and us too) … So we must get ready for a Raid Failure in the main servers if the cards used there are the same with the mail server :frowning:

Just Praying on that not to happen again …

I have some raid configured servers here but no one had the same problem (thanks to God) …

So I can say that I’m a lucky owner of Adaptec Controllers
:]

Adaptec raid controller has failed only twice for us.. Once now and once a whole year ago

Inbetween that, it has prevented downtime by guarding against HD failures in at least 4 cases over the last 2 years

We use the top-end $350 adaptec controllers on all of our 12 dual xeons servers and 3ware raid cards on our sata servers (5 of them).

Hi Yash!

Can you explain for the techies among us what is the issue with the software that makes it impossible to have a full backup? Identical box, live replication of content and config over a second NIC makes it possible to have an identical standby box. If the live box fails you only have to plug the network cable over and in 15 seconds you are live again.

This is what we did here. What software makes this impossible to do?

Ton.

When Hsphere creates a mailbox on the primary mail server, its not possible to get it to create it on a potential secondary server as well automatically. There are alot of other minor issues as well that relate to Hsphere

Stephen and I have however been working on a load-balancing project for our windows servers. That’s a project that we haven’t made official yet but if we are succesful on Windows, Linux would be next.

data restoration begun.

Between 1.5 hours to 3 hours is expected recovery time based on our projections

URGENT: mail problems

hi,

im very frustrated and disappointed. I have all my customers with email problems and thats unaceptable. They cant check pop3, webmail or even change anything (with CP) in their accounts:

“Failed to change Password tower@XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Internal Error, Tech Support Was Notified”

Please fix this ASAP,

Best Regards, Ignacio Marcos.

Yash,

Can you just confirm that any email forwarders that are setup will still work in the mean time?

All email coming is basically stored temporarily. That mail is then piped to the main server when it goes online and processed like ordinary mail. So yes, forwarding would take place

Apparently not. I have just had a call from my clients to say that their mail forwarding is not working. Please can you confirm ASAP that email forwarding setup should be continuing to work.

The mail forwarding would take place only when the main server is up. Let me talk to Tanmaya and confirm

So when I asked will forwarding take place in the mean time and you replied yes, you actually meant no?

You need to get this sorted so that forwarding is working while you fix this problem.

Mail is basically stored temporarily as I said.

It would then be piped to main server for processing. Any forwarding would take place then, not now.

It seems that emails were being stored, until the main server startet recreating accounts. Both me and my clients started do receive Delivery Status Notifications (Failures) from the mails sent to us. So it seems after all emails were being stored, until the moment where the main server was reinstalled without having its accounts configured. At that point they all failed..

is this true?

(Technical details of failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 10): 553 sorry, that domain isn’t allowed to be relayed thru this MTA (#5.7.1))

Yes, that was due to an error (lasted 10 minutes_
corrected… mail going to backup server again

I don’t think your mail relay server is working.

All emails being sent to the mail server are being bounced back as delivery failure:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

It is not happening any more

Software glitch…

Software glitch! How long has the “software glitch” been glitching? All the time the mail server has been down?
