Unable to access email services.

We are unable to access email services from both POP3 & webmail. Is the email server down?

Same.

Confirm here as well. It appears that on-line support does not exist either - odd - jodohost landing page says they provide immediate live chat too :frowning:

Where is our backup server?? X(

announcement from support: http://support.jodohost.com/showthread.php?t=3739

Mail server is inaccessible due to some problem.
Secondary mail server is already up, so mails will not be lost.
We will provide an update soon here about the issue.

Should this be “incoming mails will not be lost”? Because i’m still not able to send mails.

Hard drive/raid system died

Recovery under progress.
Backup mail server active

The live support system is buggy. A new system is under development that would replace the current system. If in a situation you can’t reach us over Live Chat, please use our phone numbers or ticket system

Wasn’t the whole point of the second mail server as a relay supposed solve this problem.

I may have misunderstood but I thought that if the mail server goes down (like it has) then we should be able to still send and receive emails using the relay server?

Please correct me if my undertsanding is incorrect.

5 hours is a MAXIMUM projection from this point. I’m hoping much earlier

We have an excellent team that’s dealing with this at the moment. We have an admin team here in New Delhi as long as 2 administrations at Miami working on this.

This is purely a hardware failure, the mail server itself was running absolutely 100% fine and it was on a high performance Dual XEON server.

Backup mail server would store all incoming email within the downtime period. Doesn’t allow SMTP unfortunately.

Hi Yash!

Is it possible to have an exact copy of the crashed mailserver as backup? We cannot be without being able to send mails for 5 hours or more. Probably more because everybody starts to send mails when the server comes up again which makes that the server will be heavily loaded for some time.

It should take an hour to set up a fast SMTP server for us.

Ton.

Oh, so all incoming mail is being stored and then in five hours when you get the mail server up and running we will be send and receive emails again?

Can you just confirm that any email forwarders that are setup will still work in the mean time?

All email coming is basically stored temporarily. That mail is then piped to the main server when it goes online and processed like ordinary mail. So yes, forwarding would take place

Excellent

temporary SMTP would not be possible. Don’t worry about load, the mail server can handle a huge amount of load with its hardware configuration

SMTP should be restored much sooner than 5 hours though. I’ll give you a more acurate estimate within 60 minutes

Having a mail server down for 5 hours aprx. from now is a big problem for us and our customers … Also we must add the past hours to this :frowning:

I think Jodo must provide a real backup server for mails , so when one goes down the other will come up and no loss of service for users and customers can occur …

I have a kind of server here in my company which works as a file and Sql server , if one goes down I can bring up the other in apx. 30 mins without any loss of data …

Now thinking “How To Explain 5 Hours To My Customers” 'cause my phone is ringing till the down :frowning:

Waiting a stable and quick solution from jodo team again …

Tell your customers it was a hardware failure. There is very little I can do to prevent them unfortunately. They happen rarely but when they do happen, we do have to restore from scratch

Having a hot-backup mail server is next to impossible with our current software. I think the current relay solution where no incoming email is lost is very adequate and very few hosting companies provide such a solution. Most have no redundancy towards failure.

Let me assure you it would be much sooner than the intial 5hr projection… That is the maximum projection.

It is not as simple as that in a production environment with a mail server dealing with tens of thousands of mail boxes on it. Restoring directory structures, etc… takes time however fast the system and the hard disk is.

Server has been reinstalled

Qmail and HSphere and going to be installed shortly. After that, directory recreation and data recovery will start.

Hmm..
How likely is it for 2 hard disks in a RAID configuration to fail at the same time? It seems each time there is a hardware problem with storage, the problem is unrecoverable despite the use of RAID hardware 0.o

I’m lucky I poll for mail every 5 minutes, but restoring from a backup means people still lose mail that was already delivered :frowning:
