What’s up with Web15? It went down again this morning for a while (seemed like an hour, probably was less) and there’s a pattern showing up here (April 9, 17 and 23):
Web15 not responding - Network Outages and Updates - JodoHost Web Hosting Community
Web15 stopped responding - Network Outages and Updates - JodoHost Web Hosting Community
Web15 not responding(Kernel panic Error) - resolved - Network Outages and Updates - JodoHost Web Hosting Community
My customer is giving me a hard time at this point - once, twice in a month, ok. Three times, not ok. Four times, really not OK.
Is there a plan to address the kernel panics? I’m not normally a whiner - but I need to push on this a little bit to get better answers for my client.
We apologize for the continuing issues on web15 server.
For the concern of kernel panic issues, we are looking into the upgrade of kernel on the server which can help here to mitigate the kernel panic issues completely.
However, for other 2 times out of which one was due to abuse from a domain and other one was due to a buggy plugin that was taking huge memory on the server and made unstable the server at that moment. But we had stopped both of them at that time for taking care of the issues.
Also, i would like to mention here that we are manually monitoring this server continuously now and have automatic alert monitoring system’s as well, which help us for controlling this situation further.
Any update on the blocking of Web15 by AT&T?
I just checked and it’s still down.
We are aware and working on it, it is taking a while as we found some domains had 100+ bad scripts uploaded to them and having to sort them out. We should be able to get issue with ATT solved shortly but we don’t want it to come back at all. Seeing a lot of 777 permissions too, customers should strive to never use 777, work with 755 and will be a lot more secure on your sites!
I found one site that was defaced had a bunch of 777 directories that I KNOW I did not create, and one in particular (an images folder used for uploads) I KNOW was set to 755 last year.
Obviously some of the scripts these guys are uploading are also resetting permissions, probably making future re-infection easier.
I’m assuming it’s pretty easy for Support to reset permissions on a site recursively with their Root access?
I’ve been tempted to request this, but going through the directories manually I also get a chance to look for other uploaded garbage.
It’s kind of a pain working through File Manager or FTP (at least my FTP programs…maybe I need to exlpore that?)
We have set 755 globally before for things already 777, get quite a few complaints about things not working on CMS then, but I agree it is really needed, for the most part their is no LEGIT reason for 777 permissions.
AT&T claims web15 is not blocked now.
