What is SQL Azure?

So i’ve been reading posts where you can host your database on sql azure.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out what is Azure? I mean it seems to me that it’s just a hosted version of sql server?

Completely confusing, anybody can tell me how is it any different than a hosted version of sql server?

Azure is a platform by MS similar to Amazon S3. They are trying to replace us :frowning:

It’s pretty much acts and behaves like SQL Server 2008, from all I have read. We are evaluating setting up SQL Server 2008 as well.

Thanks! I’m beginning to see the concept of it, but I guess I need to research more on the specifics.

And don’t worry, we stick with you guys for the great support

I must chip in and say that Azure is a pretty awesome platform if you are a .net developer looking for a scaleable solution, but I don’t it will replace you guys (jodo) in a hurry. Given the value/flexibility you offer I wouldn’t worry

I have searched it out a bit, it is interesting they basically are putting a sql 2008 server out there as a huge hosted service. it has some special .net calls for some unique parameters, but nothing major diff than 2008.
