What’s up with win12? Today it’s been slow, unavailable, or just plain not responding (from site monitors as well as my own connection). At times, ASP hasn’t been working, or has timed out.
I note from the server monitoring graphs that from just before 14:00 today, the server activity went through the roof. Network use went from around its usual 20 kilobyte to 900 kilobyte at times. Right now, the CPU is maxed out at 100%. Previously, it ran at around 10% or less most of the time.
It seems likely this is down to just one account that is hogging resources at an unsustainable rate, since the vast increase in resource use is very marked at a particular time today. It didn’t just build up over time. or is something else going on?
bro, as you rightly pointed out there has been a site abusing the server today and we are working to track it down. load should return normal on the server shortly

I just moved my own quiet, but graphic-intensive, 3-visits-a-day site over there and it was nice and zippy until today. Someone tried to give me money and the form wouldn’t work because asp and the shared ssl was timing out. That doesn’t look so clever when they’re paying for their first hosting bill.
I understand that problems like these are unavoidable on a shared server with a fairly open signup policy, but it’s a pity that hsphere doesn’t supply you with a tool that would make these problems quicker and easier to track down when they do arise.
no control panel, whether its hsphere, helm or plesk provides tools for WIndows to track down abusive accounts. It’s all trial and error. We use a few 3rd party tools to track down websites currently being access and try to pinpoint which could be responsible for the high usage.
That sounds like an application just begging to be written. How much would it cost to commission? $5-10,000? It would pay back in no time if you resold it to other Windows hosts for a couple of hundred bucks a throw, which it has to be worth.
(I’m not volunteering, btw. No money, know nothing about servers…)
If such a software could be written, I would have wrote one by now There is no way we can directly relate a website to CPU usage and RAM usage. We can only make intelligent guesses.
