Win20 Really Really slow

It takes over 15 minutes to decompress a 7.6Mb file using WebShell.

Overall performance of the CP is really slow as well.

What’s happening?

Ton.

CP is remote from win20 right now, one thing we noticed on all servers is when using remote SQL servers the overhead on IO is a lot higher, win32/33 very not performing that well initially, even had to move win32 alone, but once we got MSSQL11/12 migrated they sped up GREATLY. This happened for all win26+ once we got the SQL moved, they sped up. The SQL remote latency plays a big role in the overall speed.

win20 is more tied to mssql8/9/10 than the 11/12 we have migrated (and 13 new), so once those migrate the IO overhead will drop greatly.

There are also a couple users we need to send abuse notices to with 1GB+ Access DBs :frowning:

Webshell decompress has never been fast, send a ticket and we can do it there

I truly think there is something else going on. At the end I decompressed the file myself (Joomla 1.6 installer files) and I started uploading them myself (to Hispano.irdx.org).
I started at 19:00 CET. It’s now 23:30 and the upload is still running…

Please read the rest of what I said…SQL is making very high IO sometimes, I recycled some pools to close some connections but long term it will get better, we are just having a bit of an issue moving more due to IP address shortages, we are working to resolve that at highest priorities.

Honestly, I think “a bit of an issue” is the understatement of the week. It takes HOURS to upload 7Mb to this server using FTP. Sites on this server are REALLY REALLY slow.

Anyway, if we need to wait for a solution, I’ll wait. But I think to have this situation for days now, you should be thinking about your SLA’s to your customers. It’s not about server uptime. It’s all about user experience of the sites you host on your infrastructure.

Ton.

We’ve taken some action on the large access DBs on the server as well, as well as found a few more, the disk IO is over 5x faster now due to that.

Stephen, i just did a test.

It takes more time to load up the CP on H-Sphere than to download the Joomla installer from the Joomla website, upload it to another hosting environment (in this case 1and1), decompress it, create the DB’s and install Joomla.
In the mean time, my CP on H-Sphere is still loading.

And since apparently you are not going to do anything about this anytime soon, i’m moving these sites away from Jodohost as i did with many other sites already.

Sorry,

Ton.

That’s fine, I am not holding you hostage.

Win20 is bound by things I cannot control right now. I can put it on a 16 core server by itself and it won’t run faster.

I’ve told you exactly why it is the case, the SQL servers it is linked to need to be migrated.
If I could wave a wand an have the /22 or /20 of IP addresses I needed from ARIN I’d have done so weeks ago.
We are unable to proceed in moving as there simply are no IP addresses to move to right now, we are working on this as top priority.

I understand you don’t have time to wait on that, it’s fine, but it is also just the way things are right now. We are working on it, and the SQL servers will be migrated ASAP, along with other web servers.

Note:
We have some app we use from win20 on a daily basis, and it is running very well, so this is very app/site specific.
