Re: WinVPS15 - hardware issue - going to recovery mode
We have VPSes online at this point, they have not been recovered and the hardware is not yet fixed. We have a tech on the way to the datacenter to prep for a complete recovery process.
We will have to reinstall windows during this process and then restore the VPSes, we expect this process will take about 2-4 hours from the time it start if all goes as planned.
What has happened is a dual RAID failure, one drive went offline, in rebuild process the other drive went off. We have it now up on a single drive, however it is limping and if it hits any bad sector or any issue along these lines, it goes offline as well.
We plan to replace both drives with brand new ones, install windows and virutozzo, and then restore files off the single drive that is working best. If this fails we will move to backups clients have taken.
At this point Power Panel is offline, as taking a backup is making windows blue screen.
Re: WinVPS15 - hardware issue - going to recovery mode
We are gathering everything that will be needed for the work to be done, server is up and going at this time. We are trying to keep downtime as minimal as possible.
Re: WinVPS15 - hardware issue - going to recovery mode
about 70% of data copied to new hard drives.
We have not attempted to start these up yet as we are still doing virtuozzo and Windows Updates, with a lot of reboots.
Re: WinVPS15 - hardware issue - going to recovery mode
No success yet in getting virtuozzo running properly with the backups trying one more method before we work to make new VPSes on other nodes and copy the backups there.
Re: WinVPS15 - hardware issue - going to recovery mode
We have some progress in getting the virtuozzo bugs worked out, not much thanks to Parallels support to this point I’ve done it all on my own getting runarounds from them
We have mailed all offering alternatives to getting them up as well, but had no takers so far, so we are pressing on with this task.
I am not happy at all about this entire process, it is not supposed to be this hard to get a virtuozzo server up and going, but there are some big issues with windows updates, their servers not providing them, then MS site not compatible etc, quite a mess indeed. I thought this was an issue with the ‘older’ version only, but trying the newest results in the same issues.
