Bots are out of control...

This is not a post fussing at Jodo, just simply a thread to start a discussion on the best tactics to help minimize the bot problem... I guarantee a substantial amount of each of your sites bandwidth is used by bots trying to find exploits and dumbly "bumping" your sites over and over and over. So here are some questions to throw out...

Other than blocking individual IP's, what are some of your tactics for minimizing this annoying threat?

What system level tools have you all found to combat this threat?

Anyone want to jump in and comment?

Cloudflare does a good job of it, but sometimes they make sites go down with DNS errors too, that is why we had to stop using them. I think they mostly have this in control now.

the base version is free and does a pretty good job.

on same subject, i banned over 350 bots yesterday here alone and adding another 100 or so right now.
