Dedicated IPs

I have noticed that many hosting companies are providing free dedicated IPs with their packages. Could someone tell me the advantages of a dedicated IP?

I dont think there is any real advantage unless you need to use SSL

Whether you are on a static IP or shared IP, you'd find no difference in site speed. Static IPs are only needed if you are going to use SSL or anonymous FTP.

Installing one if fairly easy through the CP. And sure, if you need any help we will always be there. A dedicated IP can easily be added from the CP.

Yash is right -- you really only need a dedicated IP for SSL encryption since the SSL package envelopes the HTTP Header... and it's this header which is normally used to share IP addresses between domains. And no, you won't see a speed difference between shared and dedicaetd IP addresses.
