FTP Issues

Been having issues when connecting with an FTP client to my accounts. I cna connect fineand see the folders but if I open a folder that has a number of files in it it never seems to come back with the listing. If I abort the listing command it then shows a partial list. Not sure if this is my client or Jodohost. I'm using FlashFPX and Filezilla, both do same thing.

Command: LIST
Response: 125 Data connection already open; Transfer starting.
Response: 226 Transfer complete.
Error: Timeout detected!
Error: Could not retrieve directory listing

And the listing does not show.

If the folder only has a few files in it then it shows fine.

Any ideas?

So typically passive should be off? It seems some servers need it and others don't. What exactly does it do and when should it be used or not?
