Hosting Control Panel

I'm composing this message from work right...where as it turns out I spend majority of my time. We have firewalls installed in the corporate network that limit our internet usage us to to web browsing. I have a web-based service that lets me upload files to my jodohost account...but...there is just one tiny thing I am not able to do. I cannot log on to my control panel. Is there some sort of security reason why the control panel runs on port 8080 and not simply on 80? I'm just curious. I know I must be the first person to ask such a question.

Thanks.

Same here, I cannot access to HSPHERE from my work, because of firewall restrictions.. But I'm using some weird "workaround": logging from work place to my HOME computer with Remote Desktop, then going to HSPHERE from there :)

OK. We'll see if we can change it to port 80 by the end of this month

I have been thinking about making this request for a while now, but I didn't think anyone would listen or care. But admins at Jodohost definately listen ;)

The most important thing for me is to make sure my account isn't overdue. If the port changes to 80, I will be able to make payments from work.

Thanks Yash.

We are right now occupied with restructuring tasks we are carrying out on our servers. As soon as we have completed them, we will considering doing this

Yash, I was just wondering if you have considered changing the Hosting Control Panel port from 8080 to 80 yet....

Yes, as I said, we are carrying out restructuring tasks. This includes deploying a new control panel server. We should have it setup by the end of this month and I'll have HSphere deployed on 80 (provided that this is possible)

An update - We talked to Hsphere Support and they strongly recommend against port 80 versus 8080 as it poses a significant problem with updates, resellers etc. So unfortunately we won't be able to do this

The problem was solved on my side too. The system administrator at work opened port 8080 as it is commonly used by web sites (he got complains from other workers as well). So not an issue for me now :)

Hmm. Isn't there some sort of way of transparently mapping a URL on port 80 to your control panel on port 8080? (server side ofcourse) I can't really think or how let's say you would do this in IIS...but it would be nice if somehow I could logon to let's say http://newcp.jodohost.com:80 and it would actually be loading http://cp.jodohost.com:8080....

If only that was possible....
