How long to set up a subdomain on Linux server?

On Windows servers this is more or less instant, but subdomains on Linux (CL1) seem to take an indeterminate amount of time to become functional. Files, even the 'instant access domain alias', are still not available after 45 minutes on one I set up earlier. All I get is the "default H-Sphere server page" or the hsphere 404.
Is there a way to hurry this along?
 
Submit a ticket, sounds like Apache did not reload on cron job or command it is is supposed to do.
