IP addresses being blocked by SORBS?

We are planning to shift to a different datacenter this week and that
should permanently solve the problem of our IPs being blocked.

Great...just wanted to make sure what the problem was and see if there was something we can do..it doesn't seem to happen often but often enough to frustrate me.

Thanks...

It's only happened a couple times and wasn't sure why. I don't understand how mail is routed so I was thinking it was not a direct route and somehow along it's path it got blocked...but now I understand.

thanks..

Could you please be more specfic when the shift will be happening. Important business emails are bouncing back :(

Mail is bounched by only those servers which blocks emails on the basis IP information from Sorbs, SPEWS.org etc. Spews.ord etc. tend to list complete IP block rather than the IP which actually did SPAM.

While we have policy to take fast action against those who do not comply with our Anti-Spam policy http://support.jodohost.com/showthread.php?t=258), it takes time to unlist our IP's even though our customers have not done so and our IP falls in that block.

To alleviate the problem, we took a swift decision to move the servers to different data centre where we will have new block of IP. As informed earlier this matter will be resolved by this weekend.

That's a good thing, but now comes a question, what happen if one of customers will do the spam? I don't care about the one who will do it, rather about IP - it will blocked again? I'm just curious how hosting companies deal with such problems, it should be raised over and over, not?

We are taking all possible precaustions and learning from previous experience. We have handled this very efficiently for at least five months. This second incident we are taking care of in about a week time. We will try our best to make sure that it does not repeat.

The problem wasn't with SPAM originating from our servers, it was from SPAM orginating from the same IP block. We are very tough against spammers and I doubt we'd be ever listed after the shift.

Most hosting companies deal with this problem by not allow mailing lists software, components or scripts of any kind to reside on their servers, all thanks to the blasted spammers and porn pedlars.

.....

I surely hope jodohost don't go the "no mailing list on my machine" route, because my future business will depend on it - though you folks can be sure that i will keep ethics at top priority by not dealing with people who are not aware or downplay spam protocols.

Nope, we have not done that nor will we ever do that. Legitimate mass mailing is allowed. What is legitimate is clearly defined in our AUP.

I forgot to answer this question last time. I'm not sure what most hosting companies do but we very closely monitor our mail server. We look into any bulk emailing take place from our server and if we find it to qualify as a violation of our AUP, we delete the email queue and send the customer a warning. If the customer continues with his or her activity, we suspend that account.

All though our monitoring may seem intrusive, I can assure you that we take customer privacy very seriously. We only go through large queues of emails that appear suspicious.
