MASSIVE 1.2Gbps DDOS ATTACK

Dated: may 12, 2004

Our entire network was hit by a massive DDOS attack that flooded the our main router at upto 1.2Gbps bringing our entire network down for about 1.5 hours

Level3's entire security department was working to block this attack off with us.

The entire attack was against win6 and we have had to disable it temporarily to get the network back up.

The attacker is based in the United Kingdom and we have traced down his location. As soon as we are able to get the attack shut, we will reactivate Win6

Re: MASSIVE 1.2Gbps DDOS ATTACK

The entire attack was from the University of Manchester. Feel free to post negatively about their non-existant security staff

I'd like to correct myself. Manchester university was a major and confirmed source of attack but there are other drones attacking as well which we are working to trace

As soon as we can shut down all source of attack, we will be bringing up Win6 again. Email, database and all other web servers are functioning perfectly fine at the moment

Just to update customers on this, the attack was entirely from manchester university's network (130.88.0.0/16) and we have blocked them from accessing our servers till they sort it out
