One of my customers wants to use microsoft Index Server to index its website. Is this available for Windows? (not CF)

You mean: is it not even installed or working? Is it possible to enable it to index one customer's site?

This is indeed a problem. Since we cannot use the indexing server it renders the search from the frontpage extensions useless. As per this article WAIS is no longer available in Windows 2003.
 
I have a graph showing why Index service is disabled, it takes up HUGE cpu resources
