New Backup Servers

We now have new 1TB backup servers in a separate facility a few miles away from the main facility where our production servers are housed. We'll be placing all our backups on those servers now to give added protection against any possible sitation that may result in the loss of our backup servers in the main facility (such as a fire although extremely unlikely due to the excellent fire surpressions systems onsite). We are taking advantage of a private network between these two facilities to be able to support this setup.

We are now also testing a new backup procedure that would allow us to take complete copies of our hard disk partitions (at the sector level instead of the file-system level) and store them on our remote backup servers. This new backup procedure simplifies a recovery procedure (incase of a rare situation of a unrecoverable server crash) as we could restore the system exactly as it was before the crash without having to reinstall programs, redo permissions, etc. We are hoping this will also make restorations quicker
