Problems with user accounts

I've recently been having problems in Control Panel. I go in, and then I click User Accounts and it says: "Windows can not open the User Accounts control panel." My worst fear is that it has something to do with the registry, but I know better than to start tampering with things in there. Also, I frequently check for viruses and spyware and it's all good. Are there any pieces of advice or recommended programs that I could use? I really need help. Thanks.

I don't have a username. All I do is sign at the beginning by entering my password. Why won't the user accounts menu open up in the control panel? Byt the way, I'm using Windows XP.

im not much help. but have you ever been able to access it?

the problem maybe that your account has not got 100% admin permssions, meaning the users editing is disabled on your account.

have you got a remember password back up disk?

it was a feature added into XP where you have a disk that allows to be booted.. im not sure if that can help.

as it maybe more than that.. best bet is to look on Microsoft sites. or ring technical support (MS Support).

is it XP Pro or Home edition?

i ask as there are different security measures etc within XP Pro
