I had registered your basic windows package in trial mode and then proceeded to buy a domain. 16 hours after I made the payment it was activated and now I'm told it would take 48 hours to propogate... this is ridiculous

The reason it took 16 hours is that we had to allow your order to pass through 2CheckOut's anti-fraud screen. We deal with fraudalent orders everyday and it would become extremely difficult for us to do business if we were charged back on a regular basis. I'm sorry for the delay anyway
the 48 hours propogation period is pretty standard as Ron explained

Might not be my business...but...my 2 cents
I cannot comment on the 16 hours...but...
it is suggested that domains take up to 72 hours to propogate. Noone has control over this but I have found in most cases it has happened within 24 hours for me. Worth keeping in mind for the future as it won't matter what web host you are with.
Just want to make sure blame isn't placed where it doesn't belong.

My domain went active in about 30 hours after payment Think that is pretty good by any standards
