Third Level Domain a good idea?

I have a domain named
mydomain.org, but I really wanted
mydomain.com but someone else already had it.

A domain registrar out there is selling what it calls "third level domains" and says it can give me
mydomain.us.com

That seems attractive to me. It's easy enough to remember.

Is it a legitimate way to go about getting the .com that I wanted? ?(

Is it a bad idea for any tech reason. ?( I would probably move my website there, or at least forward to there.

A third level is not really the domain you want, as it has the additional level, I would highly recommend using the .org or .net if available.

Thank you for your reply. I could only get the .org. The rest are taken. Is there more inconvenience to this longer URL than the added length when typing it in the web browser?

Will the fact that it is a third level impact me or visitors in any way?

Thanks again

Personally, I feel as being a third level you lose a level of control, and a domain very similar to yours could really be someone else and be something totally different.

the domain being very similar happens with names even if they arent 3rd level... i cant even count the number of times i have gone to jodhost.com by accident! ha

that is true, but you still have less control over the third level, for items like creating a dns server.
