Why can't we upgrade our database to latest SQL version

Our Resellers are being offered the latest version of database software being supported by HSphere. We are looking into SQL Server 2008 as well.
 
You can in a way, with new account, Hsphere sadly doesn't support 'upgrading' the SQL Version or deleting DBs and changing to newest server, I don't know if they thought this was a 'feature' and done by design, or just an oversight.
It has been brought up many times in the Parallels hsphere forum in the past(and before it was parallels) but nothing ever done to rectify.
On all services but database if you delete all items using the service, and recreate it will go to the newest server., Except on SQL DB, it will 'remember' where the old was and go there.
 
so, is that the only way? new account?

wordpress 2.9 requires mysql 5 ... and many of my old customers including my own, are attached to the old mysql 4 ...

moving them to a new account would be a pain :(
 
What we have done as a workaround is make an account and put the user DBs inside of it, it works as a workaround just messes with the accounting of usage in their account some as it is in a central other account.

Doesn't this mess up those with anonymous support? They wil have to pay extra for this account? Seems kinda unfair?

You could handle this one account, it is the only work around I know to do.
 
So I need to move my entire primary account over to a newly created one? Isn't that unreasonable if we are running alot of sites?

Why would you need to move the entire primary account over?

Just make any account and start dropping DBs in it.
 
Yes as Stephen says...I made a new generic H-Sphere account.... and then MySQL databases that are created from inside that new account will use the latest mysql 5. Then point the new version of WordPress to that database and it should work. (at least for a new WordPress installation)
 
Do we need to pay for the new account? I can't see which option to choose in H-Sphere to add a free account that is just to get the upgraded mySQL. Please provide some clearer direction on which option to select to do this. Thanks!

Are you a shared or reseller customer? the answer will vary, but we can provide you with a new DB server if you are a shared customer, it will need to be done by ticket.

yes make a ticket, we will need to know type of DB and the likes as well(issue can be mysql or MSSQL, so we need to know), also desired username and dbname (we will randomly make pass)

Need to do this in ticket however, not on forums :)

I just read this as a possible workaround but was wondering if anyone who has done this can clarify.

1. Create a new H-Sphere Account (can it be under the same plan? Or do I need to create a new plan as well?)

2. Create the new databases in the new account.

3. Export and upload the old db stuff to the new database

4. Edit the Wordpress settings to use the database in the new account. (Will this work? Can files that are in one account access the database of another account?)

So in the end, I basically have to "manage" 2 accounts for my clients then? Has anyone done this? And if so, did it mess with your billing?
 
yes it messes with billing(but sql traffic isn't billed and basically not able to be billed, so not in that manner), with sql yes one account can access another account as long as it knows the user/pass, it is not like file permissions :)
