Having problems updated Wordpress on this server. Hit the back-end update button and usually it never gets past the message:

It just hangs there. Occasionally it will display a Maximum time exceeded error. Very occasionally it does actually complete the update. I've noticed this server has become very slow since the 2008 update. I have very similar WP installations on win36 and updates there are never a problem. Can this be improved or should I give up and move these sites? I've updated them manually the last few times but that's very time-consuming, and clients usually don't bother if it won't do it automatically, which leaves vulnerable versions up and running for much longer than I'd like.
