Is it possible to have an Excel file on my server, grant write permissions to it and thereby allow users to open the file in their browser, make changes and then save the updated file under the same name back onto the server without using FTP software or Content Management Software? Thanks

I would think that the simple answer to your question is "no". You can use an Excel file as an ODBC source. I guess that would sort of entail using some kind of content management software to manipulate the data source, like an ASP script. There isn't a simple way to treat a web site as a "network drive".

You can sort of do this with FrontPage. You could grant the user FrontPage rights and they can open, edit and re-save the file that way. This would give them access to your whole web site. That's probably way more access than you want to grant.

You can do this if you have sharepoint set up. You might be able to do it with WebDav as well.
