how the heck do you get www2.yoursite.com to work?

i can get www2 subdomain to work on my windows account but on my linux account it doesnt work.. regardless of what i go to, even if i havent set it up as a subdomain.. (i.e. www2.mydomain.com www5.mydomain.com) it just shows a login to the control panel thing.


any ideas?
 
It could be a DNS caching issue (due to the wildcard entry). Are both the main page and the subdomain on the same webserver?
 
just for your information, anything that is not specifically assigned as a subdomain or setup with custom DNS will resolve to the default IP, as there is a * record in the DNS.
