I'm getting a 404 on one of my domains on my*****e.biz

Is this related to the mysql outage reported above?

What MySQL outage reported above? I a not following there.

However no it would have nothing to do with that at all, a DB doesn't make 404 errors come, a 404 error comes due to file not existing, permissions possibly, and in some cases case sensitivity.

Oh sorry MSSQL1 http://support.jodohost.com/showthread.php?p=70089#post70089

I don't think it applies to us, though, we use mySQL. ?(

Anyway, I verified that the file is there (index.php)

This is an active site and it was online last night, but now this morning the users reported the 404 error.

MSSQL1 as fixed moments after that was posted :D

Submit a ticket regarding the issue, can't help from info given here, and ticket is the proper means to resolution for this type of issue..

I have a bunch sites down with this type of error. Content is all there, was working yesterday, now I get a 404. I submitted a ticket for one this morning and just updated that ticket with the rest of the downed sites. I have clients calling all upset and I have nothing to tell them.

This is what I got in response to my morning ticket:
Hello,

Plesae check it now.

Feel free to contact us for further assistance.

With Regards

Great, that one site is up. But can't I please get more details? What was wrong? Why? I'm not mad, just flustered. How am I supposed to respond to my clients if you folks won't tell me?

Thanks,
Tim

Disable and re-enable PHP with version you need seems to be the solution.

Thanks. But why? These sites have been working fine, some for years. Now overnight they all have to be reset? Did I miss some CP upgrade notice?

And what's the pattern...I have multiple sites under some accounts where one is down and the other is working. I don't get it.

I also have frequent and reoccuring problems almost on a daily basis, with at least one of my domains (it varies from time to time). Right now they are all down and not working just at the critical hour I use one of my accounts that host auctions that finish all within the hour. I don't know how many support tickets I've had to write over the past few months, but it always says, please check it now and let me know if the problems continue. Well the problems do continue, very frequently. Sometimes it's only for a few minutes at a time, but it's enough to turn potential customers away.
I know the folk at Jodohost work hard, and do respond quickly and in nearly always in a human manner which is always appreciated, but these issues are extremely frustrating at times.

I did not know this was going to happen, but the ISAPI layer for htaccess(password protection) was having some faults, we had to disable the oldest PHP installs (in c:\php), it was not supposed to be used anymore, but there are still a few lingering domains using it.

The first hsphere update back at 3.0 moved them to c:\hsphere.net, the newest moved it to c:\program files, the oldest version has not been used in over 2.5 years as a path, and as I said I did not realize there will still domains using this path.
Had I known I would have issued a warning on it, but we had to take the action to fix password protection on some machines.

I posted a short notice on network status forum, so if someone is seeing an RSS feed they will get it, more people do this than read the announcement emails.

Of my downed sites, all but one are indeed pretty old. I wouldn't have guessed 2.5 for some of them. But, that's probably right. Anyway, thanks for the explanation. It would be nice to get more details in response to the tickets so I could look a little more in-tune to my clients.

... an RSS feed ...

How about twitter? I'm afraid I gave up on RSS, yet another program to run, to check, etc. I guess it's the same with tweetdeck. But, I'm following lots and always have an eye on the 'deck.

I just use firefox top toolbar for the feed on my side, never got into twitter.

Emails almost no one reads these days :(

Hmm, I'll look into this :)

I don't want to say too much, but it could possibly be one of the few useful purposes of twitter :D

I have seen Houston, Tx is doing traffic disruption updates on twitter, that is pretty neat too.

I have my weather station tweeting me hourly with temp, wind, etc. data. That's cool. NASA mission updates are fun too. But, I'm not sure I find much value in the other people I'm following...occasionally there's an interesting link. Mostly though it's self promotion type stuff.

Exactly what I have seen from most.
I'd be open to a twitter feed for network status/server status matters, but I won't commit to replying the replies and the like. That is why we have the forums :) when we put status out, it is for info, and we are typically focusing on that don't have time to take questions until completed, and then I don't think Twitter is the platform to address them properly.
But for status, I can see it being a winner.
