Hi, hope you’re all taking the chance to relax your nerves today after the pre-Christmas craziness. Unless you adhere to the Julian calendar, in which case you still have time to get those last minute pressies.
If anyone has time, I need a couple of external tests of download speed from a server. I’m only getting 26 KBytes/sec downloading this file, which is really slow. Support says it’s “fine” when they try (assumedly from an external location).
If some people can simply download this (1.3mb) and post their speeds, I would really appreciate it. It’s just a zipped up photo of a friend’s dog.
Thanks, and no matter to what religion or culture you belong, have a fun holiday and festive season, and all the best to Jodo and everyone for the new year!
I am getting only 6KB/s but take into consideration I am on sprint CDMA mobile broadband card but onlyhaving 1 bar of signal on 1xRTT network right now
If thats from a JH hosted site, that seems slow, as I get 2 - 3 times that speed for the identical file from several of my JH hosted sites. In fact, I can upload to my own sites faster than I can download from asainc.net.au
All my sites are hosted in Unix servers: web5 web6 web7 web9
The speed varies considerably depending on the time of day. Early to mid evening local time are the slowest. Don’t know if this is due to bandwidth limits of my ISP or whether it’s higher up the chain such as the Southern Cross cable.
Currently getting 80k from my sites (local time: Sat, 10:42pm)
I too notice that ftp downloads are generally up around the 170k - 230k, although they do drop down to less than 100k at times. Haven’t been able to identify any pattern to ftp speed variations as yet.
There is something very wrong here. The silence around this issue is conspicuous.
I’ve had no resolution to my ticket asking about this download speed issue (#AIQ-71965-874), and indeed I’ve now had to post twice in a row in that ticket as I’m not getting any response at all.
In this thread, no helpful response is forthcoming from Admins.
I’ve PM’d Stephen directly, with no response, and he is usually on the ball.
So come on, what’s the big conspiracy? Why is HTTP download speed abysmally slow compared to FTP download speed? It’s not just me, other people seem to be experiencing it as well.
What do I have to do to get some answers? X( ← first frown I’ve ever posted here. Answer please!
I just got your PM.
But there is a topic on it in customer only where i reference your ticket even, I can not duplicate this matter on any of my connections from mobile broadband to DSL and cable
Hi Stephen, thanks. I understand the desire to duplicate the issue in order to troubleshoot, but I’m sure myself or anyone else experiencing this issue will be happy to help out in that regard.
So let me know what diagnostic tools or tests you need me to run in order to track this down. Probably good if one or two other people do it as well.
[edit] In fact Stephen if you look at the 3rd post in this thread, Manish (one of your own guys) gets “around 33KB/sec New Delhi, India”. I think that can be classed as duplicating the error, don’t you?
