Email coming through hours later

Over the past week I have been receiving emails hours after they were sent to me. Yesterday they were delayed by around 5 hours. I submitted a ticket but have not received a reply.

Any problems with the mail servers at the moment?

Having same issue. And sending a trouble ticket via Help Desk is futile - I never receive confirmation and ticket number. Can’t send via email becuase can’t be sure it is received.

Just to add my voice.

I’m having the same issue in the last few weeks. Sometimes email is fast and sometimes it takes hours for a simple email.

Regards,

-Jim

During peak hours in the afternoon, there is a delay in mail processing on mail1. We are working to correct that. This issue affects only mail1. No email gets lost, but sometimes incoming email gets delayed sometimes (they are received on server, but are in a queue before they are put into their correct mail box)

We plan to change the configuration and do another processor upgrade on Mail1 next week, hopefully to permanently solve this issue

The issue originates from the fact that HSphere performed a major mail upgrade on their system during the last update we performed. As a result, new hsphere components have been adding alot of stress to the server.

We have tried upgrading processors (dual cores) 3 times on this server to ease the load, hasn’t helped us. This time we plan a migration to change the configuration of the hard disk from a single array, RAID5 configuration to a RAID1+1 configuration. That should reduce I/O wait times and should quicken email delivery

We are also going for some of the most expensive processors on this new server (dual opteron 280s, costing us $1600 in total). We are doing everything possible to put this to an end.

We have also permanently disabled logging on mail1 today to reduce I/o wait. we have begun the process of moving webmail to a standalone server to reduce load. We have been pulling out our hair and looking for every possible solution here… We’ve worked with PSOFT for many weeks now to try to get some software issues resolved that are causing this issue. We’ve been working to reduce the number of incoming SMTP connections (some of them spammers) to reduce stress. We moved off some high-usage domains from mail1… We are contemplating moving some more off if this migration doesn’t help

I do hope our customers understand. This isn’t an issue we have been sitting on. It has been very frustrating for us as it has been for you. We want to put an end to this slow email issue on mail1 permanently. THe issues with delayed tickets in the ticket system is because the helpdesk feeds tickets via mail1. During peak hours if there is a mail delivery delay, tickets are showing up later and not instantaneously

Thanks for the reply Yash. I’m in the IT business and I understand how frustrating these problems can be.

I just wanted to make sure that it was known how widespread the problem is. It appears you already know this.

I hope you are able to sort it out soon. Emails sent to me in the afternoon are taking around five to six hours to get through. Emails sent any other time are taking two to three hours to come through. Clients are sending me emails in the morning, I’m replying when I receive it in the afternoon and they are not picking them up until the next morning. They are getting pretty frustrated with me taking so long to reply.

Roght now emails are coming in instantly. We’ll continue to monitor. 5 hours is excessive, and is rare

Messages in local queue: 80
Messages in remote queue: 261

That is very good for now.

Not instantly. I sent myself an email from work 30 minutes ago and I still have not recieved it.

Also I haven’t gotten any of the new message notices from this thread yet and your first reply to me was over 2 hours ago.

Since the queues are so small right now, maybe this is a problem not related to queue length.

Lag times seem to be about 3 hours right now.

Sorry, I missed out the todo queue. We are working to ease this.

currently we have a 4 hour turn around on sent emails

Thanks Yash, is there anything we can do from our end to help ease the situation - a part from not sending more

am also seeing a delay here, usually around 2 hrs or so.
most of my sites are on mail1 :frowning:

Thanks for all the effort in trying to fix this, Yash. Part of my frustration was not getting any answers from anyone on what was being done.

Just FYI - emails sent from other mail servers are arriving faster than email sent between domains using the same server.

For instance, we use our “at trebleads.com” emails to communicate between my home office and my other office. If I send an email from “me at trebleads.com” to “them at trebleads.com”, it takes at least an hour to deliver. Yet if I send an email from “me at gmail.com” to “them at trebleads.com”, it might show up in minutes.

edited… my mistake :frowning:

I have same issue, and in adition , the mails sent from / to my domain never arrive

Same here. I’ve sent an email within the same domain about 12 hours ago, still waiting for it. Only a few emails came through this morning and guess what, most were junk :frowning:

Internal emails between the same domain are taking longer. 12 hours is excessive, should NOT take that long. Please submit a ticket and we can track that email for you.

external emails are coming in faster, they are getting processing priority. I think thats the way most customers would want it while we work on a permanent solution to mail1

Just an update, we have finished setting up new mail1, which is the server we’ll be migrating mail1 too.
The migration will be performed by deepak when he’s in shift tonight. The whole process is going to take 4 to 5 days (syncs).

However, the mail delay issues will significantly decline from friday evening as traffic dips sharply during the weekend.

I’m sending mails from GMAIL and it never arrived. I sent mails 10 hours ago and never arrived. Now the situation is the same. I didn’t received anything from 10 hours ago
