Win2 is now back up, apart from the ASP functions … again. Given this is alledgedly a brand new server what is going on?
Its been slow and up and down for weeks now. Not all the time, just enough to loose customers and google rankings etc.
Do we actually know WHY the thing keeps blowing up?
Just looked - the ASP is up at last - please try to sort this out, my biggest client has made a bet with me that it will be mega slow or down again before the end of the week. ?(

You know, I am on vacation, but I spent over 36 hours in a row with this thing, and it is 100% new, I don’t like it when people call me a liar.

It has been pretty good since the change, this is really the first major issue, and it is a customer script, I am restarting IIS one more time for some detailed tracking info on the server.
Do we actually know WHY the thing keeps blowing up?
Last time it was RAID rebuild failure, as we said.
This time it is CPU usage by a customer that I am spending my vacation fixing it. The downtime was caused because of a stupid windows issue, it installed an update on the reboot, and isntead of rebooting, SHUTDOWN! We had to have someone push the button, and it came right up.
Just thinking outlound - wonder if the install of ASP.NET 2.0 on Win2 is causing some problems…
Although Win2 is up - it seems to be running quite slow - ASP pages with access db connections are taking forever.
ASP.NET 2 is not the problem, ASP.NET in fact is running quite well, it is someone abusing ASP at the moment, iis is resetting at this moment, and will be back in about 30-45 seconds. Edit: nevermind, already back

Yes, its simply an abuse issue. This server is open for new signups.. so you have some new customers come in with bad scripts. Hopefully this customer is the last one. We began working on the issue fairly quickly
The server is on very powerful hardware.
Thanks Yash … no problems - I realize that in a shared evironment there are always “risks” of things like this happening. [and yes we do appreciate Stephen working on this during his vacation!]
I didnt call you a liar! I guess you don’t do irony like us Brits do, sorry.
However, I’m glad you get a vacation, running a small business like a lot of us do we don’t get vacations, just more grief from clients and the tax man so we can’t leave the business to run on its own. Until we can afford to delegate to employees etc … which brings me to my next point 
how come Jodo dont have anybody to replace employees on holiday?
Stephen came off a little annoyed in that response, he didn’t mean it trust me. He is just frustrated that win2 has been acting up despite our best efforts.
The Win2 crash and this issue are totally unrelated. This is simply an incident where a customer is abusing the server, and it has to be located and fixed.

We certainly do, but since stephen was online when this issue happened he asked me to let him handle it.

Basically what happened is I do a morning/mid-day checkup on all the servers, I noticed an issue with win2(it has just started and Yash was logged on as well, I found out once I contacted him), I asked to take care of it.
There woudl have been minimal downtime had windows not down a shutdown instead of a reset, but it is resolved now, I have isolated and limited a site away in its own pool and it is not causing too many issues now, if it does start to cause issues I will turn the pool off and email the customer.

I really am an easy-going person, but sometimes computers can bring out the worst in me, as I am sure they can you as well!

I am not even on this server, but I appreciate your hard work and efforts. It’s hard to just let the work go… even when on vacationg. My wife gets on me about doing the same.

Just checked… i also have a site running CandyPress which is running fine on Win2, but this other site (not CandyPress) is still slow… Stephen i pm’ed you the domain.
I resolved that, and thank you much for the PM, I found a site in the pool you were in that was causing the problem and stopped it, it was far worse than the other domains I had found earlier, the others I jsut put some restrictions on, this I had to fully stop!
