Over the last month we have been considering an increase in the resource allocations for our reseller package line-up. Given the fact that we are employing newer servers with double the disk capacity and see lower ISP bandwidth prices over the long term, we feel comfortable doing so.
However a major issue everytime we upgrade packages is that we lose out on revenue because Resellers tend to downgrade their packages and pack as many end-user accounts as they can on the lowest plan.
What we wish to do (given a 3 month time-frame for resellers) is to setup reasonable maximum account caps across our reseller line-up. This move has been contemplated for several months now… considering some of our competitors also enforce such caps. Putting these caps would allow us to have a more feasable business model where we could continue making more resources available to resellers as our own prices for disk space and bandwidth fall.
However, putting a maximum account cap on reseller packages is a very big move and we at JodoHost have reached a stalemate whether we should go ahead with this move. We do not have a consensus on whether customers would or would not mind account caps in exchange for increased resources…
Attached are the proposed new allocations.
The proposed maximum account caps have been designed like this. Suppose you are on the ValueHost account, the maximum accounts you could host is 50. hence, you’d be paying $50/month for 50 accounts ($35/mo base for 20 accounts, $15/mo for 30 additional accounts). To add more customers, you’d need to upgrade to SilverHost which would cost $70/month. However, at the SilverHost level.. you get 20 additional accounts or a saving of $10/month. So if you are a reseller looking to grow, you’d only be paying $10/month extra when you jump from value to Silver. However, the additional $10/month would give you double the amount of disk space, bandwidth and IP addresses.
This forum especially this private section probably represents 5% of customer opinion at JodoHost. However, the opinion we receive on this thread would be a decider on how we plan to move forward with future resource upgrades
In this proposal, Disk Space has been increase by 20%, Monthly Transfer by 50% & free accounts by 33%.
The proposed Maximum Account Cap is 2.5 times the no. of free accounts
The increase in capacity is always nice and the limits that you’ve set per account seem reasonable enough for my purposes.
The only issue that I could see is if someone has a number of micro-host accounts i.e with very low resources such as < 100Mb storage and similar transfer would run out of accounts before they get near their resource allocation.
Another concern also is I get alot of accounts that sometimes hardley use any space at all, which allows me to sell more accounts, wonder how that would affect this change.
It is difficult to set a limit for an account to accounts or to sites. For instance, we are not reselling, but we are providing hosting services for the sites we have developped. We have several sites fo some small companies, that are 10 MB in HDD space and maximum 200 MB in traffic. But also have a large company that is using 15 GB in traffic. So, in theory, I would use only one account to host about 50 sites…
I think that the limits are very resonable. Typically resellers are charging their customers so paying $1/mo per account is very resonable. I am sure that even if a site has 1mb or 1gb there is still similar amount of work at Jodo because they have to make sure that account works.
Your proposal on caps sounds reasonable and fair to me. It would be nice to know how that might all compare to dedicated or semi-dedicated as well. Personally at some point that is the way I would like to go..but I don’t have the volume to justify it just yet.
Not that is matters much in the end. But it would be intresting to know how many use thier resellers account to resell and how many use there account because they own multiple website of thier own.
I personally only use 2 or maybe 3 accounts. And the upgrades sound appealing to me.
I use for both reselling and also for clients that don’t want to worry about hosting and have us managed stuff, which we stack all domains in one panel if that is requested.
I do resell alot, so I am trying to figure out if this will benifit me as some clients don’t use hardley any space in their accounts, allowing me to sell more accounts with the space I have left.
But now we have a limit on control panels we can use then get charged, if we use more panels. So will this new option disregard the additional price we now have when our limit of control panels are used, giving us 50 accounts instead of the 15?
no, i think jodo are putting a LIMIT on the total amount you can have, you still get x amount of FREE accounts, then if you go over, you pay extra for them, but the your limited how many accounts you can have all together, free or extra
ummm i can see both sides i have a client that has 8 + control panels for his users but total all of them use < 1 gig of space and < 3 gig of bandwidth
so im in the same situation where i have lots of accounts but not using very much
i resell and also have managed sites ( my sites i have created for clients are also hosted with us).
so about a 5th of space and 10% bandwidth i use counting all the other accounts
Another option would be for many CPs but overall fewer resources. This would work well for those of us hosting many generally smaller, low-volume web sites.
