If its of any condolense — my last host, who is using SmarterMail as their server, is receiving more complaints about SPAM than JH — definitely a global issue these days.
Well if i get one more today, I am going to scream. Its awful today… None if it is even going in my spam folder like its been doing, it quit going their and coming to me… Can’t win… X(
My gmail has 15 spam messages that made it to inbox, most lame too ![]()
This one is very private, only a few people have it.
Yet stuff like this makes it to me:

WHAT IS THIS???
Under cover of it possibly she exchanged some kind of secret signalwith him.
And she was no longer the victim of Grims indifference. He even scandalized the driver, and an Indian cabman is no chaste stickler for polite speech. I heard a cot creak as she threw herself against iton her knees. They smirked at each other and stared at me when they thought Iwas not observing them.
You may charge off the extra for interest.
I could see no prospect ofour overtaking Grim or of ever learning what had happened to him. I no longer owe yourupees sixteen hundred! Vasantasenascreamed and Jeff swore savagely between his teeth. He was looking upward at the balcony, which I could not see from where I stood.
Grim is probably exploring, Jeff went on.
And it keeps going, its a novel…

ckwong, we are researchning how whiltelisting can be integrated to hsphere, as are some other hosts.
If we can get something like this server side I think it will be the best solution. I wish I could remember what my last host had. It was pretty simple and worked quite well.
Any emails that went out were automatically added and any that came in that were not on the whitelist were replied back to with a link to verify or put in a queue that I could then release from the server.
Thanks
ckwong, sounds like :boxtrapper: it is called a challenge response system, adn it can actually cause blacklistings that is one arguement against that method of whitelisting, but there are other methods as well.

Yes that sounds familiar. Is it something you guys are considering? I think it would take care of the 30 spam messages I have already received today.
Today seems like the worse I’ve seen lately BUT I’ve also having the same issue at my work email address - not sure of their internal anti-spam service but its obviously suffering too.
Did I miss something or was spam filtering completely turned off… just checked and I’m not seeing any reference to scoring in the email headers.
I just asked Tanmaya and says anti spam is on with all servers, what server are you going through that you are not seeing anything in headers?
For example - this email recently came through:
Return-Path:

What is missing is the x-spam filtering: eg from a 2 day old email:
X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.1.3 (2006-06-01) on localhost
X-Spam-Level:
X-Spam-Status: No, score=0.2 required=2.0 tests=HTML_IMAGE_RATIO_02,
HTML_MESSAGE autolearn=disabled version=3.1.3
Anyway, I’ve had issues in the past with the Spam checking stopping which was solved through trouble tickets… I just haven’t submitted a ticket on today yet.
I believe I’m on mail3.
I have terrible spam on win18. I do not get any message headers saying spam has been filtered.
I have not seen anyone mention dictionary filters yet. These have been around for 8 years now at least. I had them on my own servers when I ran things in house. Upper case filters, forwarding filters, font filters, keyword filters, spamhaus lists etc. I do not see any of these listed on Jodohosts filtering systems. after market plugins at the users end is a poor at best solution. End users not only have to waste time downloading the spam, their own CPU has to process the filters as well. And MANY people do not use or like Outlook either.

SpamAssasin is basically what we use as most web hosts use. Its open source and provides a decent level of filtration.
The problem is that spam is changing faster than the rules for spamassasin can be updated. its open source after all.
if you are getting a huge amount of spam, i suggest you look at commercial filtration systems such as postini or mailwise. They invest millions and have 24x7 teams that monitor internet traffic for spam.
We are looking at intergrating commercial spam filtering in the near future into our systems. But its expensive, and we get charged per mail box. So we have been in alot of tough negotiations with a number of suppliers.
But spamassasin is what most hosts are using, and I’ve seen alot of complaints recently by many web hosts (at WHT) about the increase in spam

Bump… any consideration with this type of solution?
Yash: That does not explain why I get no message headers from the mail filter? I do not want them you understand, but it is a good method to see if the filter is doing anything before I set it to remove/trash the spam.
I have filtering set to aggresive and I am still receiving a large quantity of spam. I checked the spamassasin website and alot of the spam I am receiveing is on the filtering list they have on their website, so it should not be coming through to me.

By no message headers, do you mean no X-Spam-Level or such headers in your email? if yes, please create a ticket right away as they should exist if Anti-spam is enabled in control panel.
Also can you point me to the rulesets at spamassassin.apache.org that you feel are missing here. Others at third party websites may suit your needs but not ours where we cater clients of various businesses including Pharma.
Spam is back again… any answer to a server side solution? This is getting bad!X(
mail3 is just terrible…
Are you saying that it is just one of the servers (mail3) that has such a bad spam problem? If that is the case, then I want to be moved!
I don’t know if its all servers, but mail3 has just been awful. I haven’t gotten any complaints from any clients on other servers.
