Upcoming Project: Localized Webhosting

Since this is a private forum, I’ve decided to discuss some upcoming projects that we’d like everyone’s opinion on.

The first project is localised hosting. We plan to setup new servers in UK, Australia and Singapore… We as well as our resellers could then create localised shared plans where web & database is hosted in one these 3 locations or in our primary cluster in the US. These 4 locations should give most people pings of 100 ms if they choose the closest location to them.

There is no deadline on this project, but I see it being close to implentation around early September. We are at the moment working with datacenters in these countries to see if we can forge some sort of deal where we are well covered in those countries without hiring our own staff immediately..

In a nutshell what this means for our shared customers is that if you liked our Value Windows plan, you could choose out of 4 locations where you’d like your site to be hosted. For resellers, you could also sell your customers localized hosting plans like this..

so when we create accounts , would we be able to, move the clients sites to where we want them

so if i had a registraion from tyhe US, i could put him on a US server, and if i had a registration from the UK i could put him on the UKL server.

if thats the case, thats a good move on your part.

Sounds good, I have a few sites that might benefit from such localization, since they’re mostly interesting to European people :smiley:

Yes exactly. But you wouldn’t exactly move them, you’d created regionalized plans. For example our Value Windows Plan would have a US, UK, AU & SG version… Inside each plan, you’d choose the server group it would be on…

I think its quite exciting and I don’t want this idea to be leaked outside this discussion forum please :slight_smile:

yes that sounds very good,

on the sites (ours) in our case

we would be able ot have a drop down menu saying where would you like to be hosted. as we have a built querystring that gets the Plan ID from a file.

We are discussing this options in various data centers of the countries mentioned above. You can also make a recommendation for a date center in your country alongwith url.

We will review pricing for this option after evaluating high cost of Bandwidth, IPs etc. with our resellers. Also before we setup such a service, we would like 5-10% of resellers in that country (and from countries nearby) to confirm that they will opt for this service.

globalswitch.com seem to have datacenters in London, Sydney and Singapore.

Can I ask why you picked the UK for the European location though? The Netherlands imo has better connectivity for most Europeans, and they happen to have a datacenter in Amsterdam as well :smiley:

Bandwidth is the cheapest in UK, out of europe. We’d most likely be going for the redbus datacenter in london, it is very well connected and has excellent facilities

Sounds awsome, just hope the above doesn’t mean a decline in support. One of JodoHost’s best features is its support (at least in my opinion) and I’d prefer good support than a slight decrease in ping times :wink:

No.. I mean for remote hands and eyes…

If there is a hardware failure, we’d like to rely on NOC staff instead of having to hire our own people in 3 more countries..

Any ballpark figure on what pricing will be like?

Yash has worked up a good idea on that, but I can’t comment yet, basically pricing would remain similar, but figuring would be slightly different.

It is unlikely we’d charge for this.. It would be available to all resellers and you could ideally begin using it by creating a localised hosting plan…

Oh, Atul mentioned something out opting in.. but I guess that was mostly to get an estimate of required server capacity at each location then?

all my clients at the moment are uk basedm but with the servers in the US of course.

could be a good marketing gimic, where would you like to be hosted!

note this is mine so i know where you are if i see it.,..lol

I have been with other hosts that have had international offerings (DataPipe and NetNation), but it was in a dedicated environment not shared. The plans were geared toward larger companies that already had a worldwide reach.

This would be an exciting advancement in the shared environment. I would be keenly interested to see if you could offer a way to share (or at least synchronize) databases (SQL/Oracle) from mutliple locations.

I believe you are correct to investigate the UK as your European home. Not only is bandwidth cheaper, but you also have a more mature hosting market with a greater depth of NOCs.
