linking to MSSQL servers around the world network IE from a us server to a UK server would be to long, for clients
unless they where aware of this. because of the distace between each query .
i have connected from my local server to the us and it can takle 15 seconds to load some pages some times.
When I talk about localised hosting, the database servers would be localised too.
He wasn’t talking about directly using database servers on the other side of the world though. He meant synchronizing databases between locations.
I guess it could be handy for keeping your data even if your own continent is nuked off the face of the planet or something, but personally I wouldn’t worry too much about my databases then 
Yep, i’m excited too, Aus servers would be a massive boon for me. The bandwidth prices here are redicules so I look forward to see how competitive jodhost pricing for Aus servers can be.
Count me in though cause if jodo doesn’t provide it I’ll have to get it somewhere else anyway.

I asked for a quote on 100GB of incoming bandwidth from several providers out in Australia, the best I got is $3000 AUD/month…
Australia is definately more expensive than singapore and the UK.
However, our incoming to outgoing ratio is about 1:7.. so it would effectively work out to 1/7th of that price if we maintain the same sort of ratio that we are maintaining in the US.. Outgoing bandwidth is free…

Apart from that… given JodoHost’s packages, that would still require an enormous amount of overselling to break even, just counting the bandwidth costs alone?
incoming bandwidth is $0.04 per MB (incoming) in Australia.. so you can make you calculations. About 1/7th of our bandwidth utilisation is incoming so if we you used 100GB of transfer, 14GB is what we’d be billed on..
We will of course be passing on the higher bandwidth costs to those who want to use bandwidth in those countries.. What we plan to do is that 1GB of australian transferwould be equal to say 3GB or 5GB of Jodohost transfer (which is specified in each reseller plan). THe actual scales still need to be worked out however. So if you plan to use all 80GB of your jodohost transfer in australia, it may actually only translate into 16 or 20GB…
Hmm, does H-Sphere have such a feature? Multiplying effective bandwidth by a factor based on server? Interesting

Having an australian real estate client, I would be very interested in seeing your AUS prices when they come through. If they’re competitive, I would be tempted to migrate the client despite the hassle of doing so.

Yes, in some places the pings are over 320ms, just because of the sheer disatance, or crowded pipes from certain areas.
However here in Miami we serve most of South America with internet, so they are typically very fast,and the only concerns are some of the East Asian and European markets. (Oh, and that tiny little island down there:D )

Sounds a cool idea to me. We are in the UK - so a UK based server would be good, a least from a sales point of view. Depends on the costs I guess, hosting in the UK is normally at least double the stateside costs X( with massive limitations on functionality etc.

Whereas, my client who is also hosted with 1&1.co.uk, but is using redirect at the moment, instead of changing the nameservers;

This is not a bad idea, but I think redundancy by the use of web farms would be a better one.

South America is mainly served via Miami, where we are, in fact, I got some details from someone about a week ago with better pings to our servers than some in South America. (What I am saying in brief is there is not a whole lot of need for it, as most internet comes from Miami to South American already), it would only be a 10-20ms increase compared to 100’s for other regions.
