Upcoming Project: Localized Webhosting

Cool, great news! Yeah, I sympathise with ya, bandwidth costs here (Aus) are ridiculous!! We need more competition amongst our carriers.

It’s a pity Singapore ping times aren’t a lot less than from here to the US, otherwise I’d be happy with just hosting there. But they’re still up around ~250ms from here, so doesn’t make much difference. I think we just have a crap route from Aus out to the rest of the world. It jumps over 100ms as soon it leaves the country over Reach. :frowning:

Actually, our outgoing bandwidth is going to be free in Australia
Our incoming bandwidth is going to be quite expensive.

So we have worked out and infact are still working out a suitable pricing model for australia. I’ll give you more details on that when its completed.

Incoming bandwidth is mainly email and FTP. The mail servers will continue to be hosted in the US.. FTP, I am toying with the idea of having a cap on free FTP transfer (after which you pay) and the HTTP bandwidth is at the same price levels and quantity as our US model..

What I was also thinking was that customers with large FTP accounts could mail in CDs/DVDs to us in Australia if they don’t want to pay extra for FTP

Let me also add that UK and Australia will be getting linux web servers, windows web servers, mssql servers and mysql/pgsql servers.

No ColdFusion servers at this point. We’ve had enough issues with coldfusion and are in no mood to multiply are problems

Sorry you’re having a hard time with pricing. It’s a bit embarassing being Australian when overseas companies try to do business here, our policies are so backward!

But if, like Virgin, you find a workable model that brings in benefits to consumers that other companies haven’t been smart enough to work out, you’ll be a big hit.

In terms of uploads, don’t forget HSphere has the File Manager built in, which is HTTP uploading not FTP… might end up being a back-door for people wanting to upload too much for your model. Just a heads-up in case you haven’t thought of that.

hey Antic, go you halves

LOL! I’m tempted..

Brilliant! All my sites are used by UK clients only, so servers in the UK would be awesome!

Count me in if you need a tester from the UK!

Whilst I’ve been having no problems with the servers being based in the US, UK servers would be a bonus. Do you mind if I ask which data centre in the UK you’ll be using?

Hmm, no VPS then? Shame, the latency is a bit annoying when typing on a SSH terminal

Well, we are moving over to a new VPS platform this summer..

Depending how our new VPS servers perform, we’d definately consider expanding them to the UK and Australia

Any news on Europe hosting? Would be great to have you in Europe present too!

Hi, the scheduled that I stated holds. Towards end of july

when will Jodohost announce this?

And Jodohost are sure about doing this?

Yash just announced towards end of July.

It’s in writing, so we can roll it up and hit him with it later.

Yes definately.. contracts have been worked out and the hardware that will be used has been budgeted.

Actually that’s brilliant news Yash! It was said that account fees will be about the same, but in terms of the Aus servers do you have any figures on how the traffic allowances will be adjusted?

so, what is the status on this case?

Congratulations to Jodo on their expansion!

Just wondering if any plans have been made for AUS yet?

:bump: for any news on Aus hosting?

I will let Yash reply with more details, it is still in the works but we are also working on some issues on the “home front” as well. We are growing so fast we are running out of space  It is a good problem I guess.
