Wen sites slow on Win8

My sites running on Win8 are very very slow…

I’ve just set up a new site for the Mobile International Surgical team at www.m-i-s-t.org and it’s taking ages. Any reasons for this ? I haven’t sent in a ticket yet.

Any help much appreciated,
Rob

BluJag, quite surprised. Your site seems to be loading pretty fast

Load also is normal:

Is the problem continous, or it just happened now?

Thanks Yash for checking it out - it is fast again now thank goodness - maybe it was just congestion on the internet somewhere. Also, thanks for the panel link.

Can we get win13 on the panel link?

I spoke too soon - the sites on Win8 have been in glue today, and some of the graphs show high activity. Jolly frustrating! FTP-ing is nigh on impossible.

Just came on shift and saw this, I am checking it out right now

Thanks Stephen - the sites are usually very fast indeed, but today for some reason they must have a big hangover or something.

I think more likely some abuse

Hmmm… I’ve been doing alot of file uploading today - it wouldn’t be me would it, sort of overloading the system?

Dont have it IDed yet, but the server is moving much faster for me now than before.

Thanks Stephen - faster for me too now

Sites very very slow again. I’m seriously thinking of closing my JoDo hosting account (since my wifes site and companies I host for are getting very fed up) and moving to faster servers. Considering they are now at the NAP Of America it’s very unsatisfactory. A couple of days ago I was in Miami and they were slow there too, whilst sites on UK servers were about 8 to 10 times faster.
So - what id the explanation? Is it just Win8? Does it need more RAM, faster hard drives or what?

Hello Rob,

I am not seeing the problem here right now, but you can request your account be moved to another server in a ticket and we can dothis for you.

Thank you Stephen - that will make my life much easier (I’m being nagged to death here) - I’ll send in a ticket.

Hi folks,

Stephen..could you please comment on this?

I don’t have any traceroutes right now to show…however I believe there is a big problem on certain routes in the SouthEast U.S. for traffic problems. I believe it actually has been a problem for awhile now. While this would be totally out of Jodo’s control..if I am right then it would be a latency situation moreso than a server performance problem.

If this is the case…is there anything Jodo can do..to ask for the rerouting of traffic coming in?

I am not the sharpest tack in the box…so if I am totally off-base..please forgive me!

There could be an issue there, I can’t replicate it from Miami or from Texas, so if you could get a collection of traceroutes it would be good.

I am not seeing slowdowns now, and actually spent a long time optimizing win8 more more today.

When the servers were moved to the NAP in Miami I was really pleased with how very fast the sites were. But, over the months there has been a marked slow down. This is purely subjective as I don’t have any figures. It got to the point that a site I was going to host declined my Jodo reseller account and I had to host it with a big UK hosting firm, and also had to use Access rather than MS Sql Server for the database back end. You can see the difference by going to www.etpsassociation.org.uk (Access)which is is the UK and www.etpsa.stamfordwebservices.net (MS Sql)which is on Win8. I’m lucky in that my job takes me all over the world and JoDo is slower than the UK servers where ever I am, including Miami on the door step of the NAP facility. Maybe it does have something to do with the routers etc. The question is, if I raised a ticket and asked for sites to be moved to different servers would it make any difference? This Jodo Forum site is always very fast so maybe the routers are in fact OK and it is just a problem with Win8. Also, sites I have on the Linux servers are much faster. Obviously one gets what one pays for and Jodo is certainly not expensive - maybe thats why the sites are slow. It’s a great pity because Jodo has support which must be second to none, but maybe if the servers were more reliable and faster then we wouldn’t need as much support. The UK servers are very fast, very reliable and not much more than Jodo. The support is nowhere near as good, but most of the time there aren’t any issues anyway. What does everyone think about all this?

Rob, check the page generation times on both sites:

etpsa.stamfordwebservices.net - 0.6387 seconds
etpsassociation.org.uk - 0.6719 seconds

I refreshed several times.. the load times are almost identical…
And to me, both seem to be loading pretty fast.

But since you say other sites you are hosting load fast, I’d suggest opening a ticket to have the site moved. That would be the best bet

do you recall which MSSQL server you are on Rob?

Rob,

Support spent lot of their time on issues which is outside the scope of many hosting companies or they charge extra for it. For example we get lots of restore request which we currently do free but other charge as much as $ 60. Support also spend lot of time helping in coding issues so that site function properly.
