Coldfusion MX 7

Phil,

At this point it doesn't really matter that much; for all I care, jodohost and their clients are much better off spending their time and efforts strengthening their core infrastructure and supporting general high-quality hosting and reselling options.

CF MX7 does what I need for now, and with the amount of amazing fully-fledged open source widgets being built and supported these days, it's a question of time before CF is reduced to a niche (not nice!) application that's kept fed and happy in order to support a few legacy sites... ;(

Legacy sites? Oh, you mean like AT&T Wireless, Bank of America, Boeing, Chicago Bears, DHL, Goodyear, The U.S. Senate, Mayo Clinic, SmartMoney.com, and many others?

Of course, then you have the "legacy sites" running ColdFusion on a BlueDragon server - little sites, like MySpace.com, The Weather Channel, Lucent Technologies, Verizon, Daimler Chrysler, Sprint, Halliburton, Motorola, American Airlines, etc.

Yep, poor old ColdFusion. What will the future bring?

Oyster,

Gee -- i didn't know they were all hosted with Jodohost. I'm honored.

Seriously, easy on the flames there -- I wasn't trying to slam CF or speak for others who can't enough of it. I was simply speaking for myself -- I don't need MX8 bad enough to keep buggin' jodohost about upgrading, but if [insert name of impressive online powerhouse here] still likes it, bully for them. I don't think they're so worried about whether or not Jodohost is running 6, 7, or 8.

I've been very, very happy with CF ever since I discovered what it could do for me and my clients over six years ago, and I'll no doubt still use it when it serves my purpose. But as far as chomping at the bit to get the latest version up-and-running in a low-cost shared server environment? Nope, that's just not realistic, IMHO.

ColdFusion won't be going away anytime soon. Adobe didn't buy MM for Dreamweaver or Flashpaper, they wanted CF and Flash to expand their market. The stats for CF sites are mostly steady; if anything most reports I've seen have shown a small (1-2%) increase. About 10% of web sites are coded using CF.

Correction to sites using CF - myspace is now an .net application. It was originally a CF application. They switched over a few versions back(There was recently a very interesting article on the tech of myspace over time). I'm sure MS sweetened the pot to help convince them.

That being said, and it having been a few months since Jodohost last piped in here, is there any way we can re-effort the upgrading of the CF servers to MX7? Stephen? Please :attn:

Really? I just check myspace sign-up page, and it is still in .cfm. maybe the .net version is not ready yet?

MySpace and several others use BlueDragon for the .Net framework, which allow the pages to be coded in CF and run within .Net.

Quote from their press release:

MySpace.com relies heavily on the ColdFusion? Markup Language (CFML) to dynamically deliver custom content to its users - allowing MySpace engineers to rapidly introduce new features to their users. BlueDragon for the Microsoft .NET Framework now allows MySpace to retire their existing Macromedia? ColdFusion servers and redeploy these CFML applications as native .NET web applications.
...
"Like many organizations today, MySpace relies on the rich functionality and productivity gains achieved by using the CFML web scripting language, but they also wanted to fully leverage the Microsoft .NET platform to maximize performance, reliability, and scalability of their web applications," said Vince Bonfanti, President of New Atlanta. "BlueDragon for the Microsoft .NET Framework allows them to do both - all while protecting their sizable existing investments in CFML applications and skill sets."

Hi,

exabytes.com is now offering ColdFusion MX7 under helm control panel.

Is there any update regarding Coldfusion MX7 upgrade? ColdFusion 8 is coming this mid of 2007.

Let us know any good news that the team here is working on this.

Thank you.

I would like to see the newer CF implemented here too, but my guess is you will be waiting a while.

On the other hand, how is 99.5% server uptime guarantee over at exabytes a good deal? Even with CFMX 7 (Standard, not Enterprise) server w/ ASP that sure is a whole lot of allowable down time.
That's almost 44 hours/year. :D

I have some reserved issues with the CF servers cycling, but site availablity and server stablity is pretty good here for a shared environment. I can hang a while longer and give them a chance to figure the best way to offer the same or better service with the newer stuff using the Psoft platform.

The problem is that I don't see Jodohost working on this issue at all. I don't believe that they have any plans to upgrade ever. I hope I'm wrong; I've been with Jodohost for a few years now and I do not want to change hosts, but if there is not an announced plan for the future soon, I'll be forced to change hosting providers.

Jodohost? Any comment? EOL on MX 6 will be coming in the next years or so, do you have ANY plans on upgrading?

we are close on 7 now :(

We just had some delays come up today I put in almsot 40 hours without even a break recently for some of this. However i would not bet on 8 working with hspher, oh for the next year!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really Stephen? You know we've been waiting patiently (or not so patiently).

Can you give us an estimated date?

Server is up we just working on a seperate network :D No more details at moment, network is even there but we will likely have a short maintenance time sometime soon in prep for it to be ready for live.....

That is really great news. I can't wait and I hope all goes well and soon. As for CF8, I won't be holding my breath on that one, at least not yet. JodoHost will cross that bridge sometime in the future I hope. However finally moving to CF7 is really great news.
